Risto finishes 7th in The Arctic Challenge Finals
Sunday, 24 February 2008

Oslo, Norway – February 23, 2008: It was a dramatic finale to one of the most significant competitions on the Tour. The Swatch TTR SIX(6)STAR Oakley Arctic Challenge, greeted with sunny skies and an enthusiastic crowd, wrapped up today with US rider Kevin Pearce taking home the title along with 24.500,- US Dollar and moving into the TTR World No. 1 position. Shayne Pospisil, also from the United States, took second place while Peetu Piiroinen of Finland once again proved he’s one of the best by rounding out the Top three and maintaining his grasp on TTR World No. 3.

Pearce was stoked with his Title win but is still looking to the future: “We just finished up the 2008 Arctic Challenge and it’s another SIX(6)STAR win for me. It feels good! It was good to see everybody stepping up… and it was good to see Terje pushing it…I’ve done a lot of TTR events this year and now I’m finally on top. It’s been a long journey. I feel pretty good about it. Seems like just yesterday it was the start of the season. But it’s coming down to the last couple events… and now it all depends on the US Open. I’m psyched. It’s going to be a good ending.”

Pearce also took home the trophy for Best Trick of the day with his crowd and judge pleasing Inverted BS 540 with a Double Grab at 7.1 m. All eyes may have been looking for a new World Record, but the highest air of the day, stomped by Peetu Piiroinen, was 7.5 m, just over 2 m shy of the 9.8 world record set last year by Arctic Challenge founder and TTR patron Terje Haakonsen.

In the same fashion as the semi finals, riders were judged on their best runs, but things were stepped up for the finals. Each rider was given five attempts to stomp three of their best tricks. Added to those three scores was a variation score that judged riders on their ability to mix things up with each hit.

Pearce’s attempts included a McTwist with a Tweaked Japan, his best-trick-winning Inverted BS 5 Double Grab, a massive BS Air Method, a Chuckflip 7, and another solid BS Air. Pospisil kept things a little simpler, starting off with a FS Air and then landing a stylish BS Air. On his third hit he busted out the BS 3 Alley-Oop, then went for a BS 5 and finished the afternoon off with a FS 3. Piiroinen returned with his signature Finnish style, opting for a BS 5 Tail on the first hit, unfortunately washing out the landing. He stomped a BS 5 Tail Grab on his second attempt, holding the grab until the last possible second. His third hit gave him the highest air, floating a clean BS Air Tail Grab at 7.5m. After a failed initial attempt, Peetu finally landed a Chuckflip on his last hit.

Some big changes in the TTR Rankings were set after a great afternoon of friendly snowboard competition. Risto Mattila who was previously the Tour Leader is now TTR World No. 2 after his 7th place finish in Oslo. Risto will definitely be looking to get back on top in the coming weeks. Andy Finch who was throwing down epic airs all day long keeps his place of TTR World No. 4 as Nicolas Mueller, who brought along his legendary Swiss style, now sits in the top ten at TTR World No. 8. Scotty Lago who didn’t fair too well in Norway still managed to improve his ranking with a SIX(6)STAR result and now sits at TTR World No. 9.

Check out www.ttrworldtour.com for fully updated Swatch TTR Rankings along with blogs, news, and videos that document all the action from The Oakley Arctic Challenge. In case you missed the competition, you can still catch every detail over on www.freecaster.tv. Be sure to stay tuned to TTR as the Tour moves to Japan for the FIVE(5)STAR Nissan X-Trail Nippon Open where we could see some more big changes in the rankings, setting things up for the final SIX(6)STAR event, the Burton US Open, where riders have one more chance to claim a share of the overall $250 000 USD Swatch TTR Tour prize purse.

Risto 4th after day 1 at The Arctic Challenge
Friday, 22 February 2008

THURSDAY FEBRUARY 21ST, 2008, HOLMENKOLLEN, NORWAY. Risto Mattila played a steady game with the three different judged contests of spin, invert and amplitude and placed 4th after the first day of riding at the Arctic Challenge. The final 16 riders get ready for Saturdays final jam in the famous Holmenkollen ski jump. Scotty Lago was riding really well but some untimely falls left him out of the final 16.

Be sure to check out all the action on Freecaster.tv on Saturday.

Today Terje Håkonsen introduced a new concept in snowboarding, and the ”Evening classics” took off in style!
The first part of today was qualification, where 24 riders fought for the 16 spots in the finals. Two heat with 12 riders in each, went down perfectly with stylish riding and good variation.

After a short dinnerbreak the 16 final riders where ready to earn some money! Flat spins, upside downs and straight airs were at the menu tonight, and I think the audience enjoyed their meal.

Awesome riding, feelgood music and the best arena ever made everybody look even more forward to Saturday, and the rest of the competition.
All the riders did their best, and we saw some kick ass riding. The tricks, the amplitude and the slams were absolutely first class, so everbody should get their butts up to Holmenkollen Saturday, to see the worlds best riders make history!!

Max Zipser wins Engadinsnow Freeride contest
Friday, 22 February 2008

WEDNESDAY FEBRUARY 20TH, 2008 ENGADIN, ST MORITZ, SWITZERLAND. Austrian Flow Team rider Max Zipster wins the  Engadinsnow  Freeride contest.

Amazing conditions at the international Freeride Event on the Mount Corvatsch. An Austrian double at the 6th edition of the Stimorol ENGADINSNOW.

The freeskier Stefan Häusl from Austria and the snowboarder Max Zipser, Austrian as well, won the breathtaking freeride competition.
Stefan Häusl showed the crowd an amazing run. He performed his technical difficult chosen run the most fluidly. He impressed the jury with his clean sticked jumps. He won with an evident advance of 6,1 points to the 2nd placed Swedish guy Andreas Fransson and the third placed Matthias Haunholder from Austria.

Max Zipser (AUT) impressed in the snowboarding category with a spectacular line and won at his first Stimorol ENGADINSNOW participation, followed by the local Roberto Furger (SUI) and Mike Äschbach (SUI). For the girls, the French Aurélie Garcin (snowboard) and the German Katherina Mihaljevic (freeski) won the freeride competition.

The freeride competition took place under best conditions. The invited top freeriders came across sunshine and best freeride conditions at the north face of Mount Corvatsch. Some riders performed a crazy spectacle with huge jumps from cliffs higher then 30 meters. But the jury was more impressed by the good control and the right choice of line in the up to 60° steep face, then by the big jumps.
Only satisfied and happy faces from competitors, spectators and the organisation at the prize giving right after the competition. It was a wonderful and successful event day.
Tomorrow the Big Air qualification will take place at the midstation on Mount Corvatsch. There is a big run: more then 100 pre-registration were made. The 10 best freeskiers and the 10 best snowboarders can qualify themselves for the big final from Wednesday, where they will compete with top riders like Alessandro Boyens (GER) in the snowboard category or Roy Kittler (GER) in the freeski category.

Clair Bidez finishes 2nd at the US Grand Prix in Idaho
Monday, 11 February 2008

SATURDAY FEBRUARY 9, 2008 TAMARACK, IDAHO - The US Grand Prix in Tamarack, Idaho saw a break in the snowy weather on Saturday just in time for the main even where riding in the pipe reached a whole new level. While the pipe was quirky during prelims, the ladies were able to set the pace early by throwing down in the finals. Flow Team rider Clair Bidez had an incredible 2nd place finish with back-to-back sevens and overhead fives. Kelly Clark landed first place by going 3-4 feet higher than the other's and rounding out the podium was Ellery Hollingworth in third. These girls are charging hard and are proving that there is a lot of depth to the women’s field beyond the high profile names commonly found on the podium.

Flow’s Scotty Lago made a late run for the podium with his textbook style and trickery, which included a fs nine corkscrew that was stuck as if it was a simple stale. Lago did one of the best 9’s ever; even Pat Bridges exclaimed “that is one of the smoothest 900’s I have ever seen”. Still, he opted to skip his last wall that may have kept him off the podium with a respectful 4th place finish.

Wednesday, 06 February 2008

Innsbruck, Austria – On February 2nd, 2008 the Swatch TTR Tour made its’ return to the Bergisel Stadium in Innsbruck, Austria for the FIVE(5)STAR Billabong Air & Style Quarterpipe. The atmosphere was full of intensity, as a roaring crowd pushed the riders to lay it all on the line, resulting in some hard hits on the coping, but also some huge airs with even bigger style. Kevin Pearce stomped a smooth BS 5 Alley-oop, rising to just over seven meters, landing him on the top of the podium. Flow Team rider Scotty Lago (USA) took second place on his 3rd hit, pumping up the crowd with a huge FS 7 Alley-oop, knocking his fellow Flow teammate Antti Autti to 4th place. Peetu Piiroinen (FIN) rounded out the Top 3 with a massive BS 5.

Antti Autti’s sick Inverted 7 and 4th place finish at the Air & Style moves him up to World No. 11 with Scotty Lago close behind in the No. 12th position. Kevin Pearce moved into World No. 2 on the rankings, right behind Flow Team rider, Risto Mattila who still holds on to his TTR Tour lead. Mattila was a little disappointed with his run, but has the Burton U.S. Open in his crosshairs. “I’m still super stoked to be World No. 1. I didn’t do too well in this competition and I was hoping for a better result," Mattila said, "but I’m still going to do the Burton U.S. Open cause it’s the biggest competition. I need really good results so I’m going to really push it there.”

With the FIVE(5)STAR Billabong Air & Style now over, the Tour moves on in full force, with the FOUR(4)STAR Quiksilver Natural Selection taking place this weekend, and the SIX(6)STAR Arctic Challenge on the horizon.

Sunday, 06 January 2008

This is what professional snowboarding is all about. Massive tricks, even bigger air, and pro snowboarders stomping the unstompable. Kim Rune Hansen took 1st and Peetu Piiroinen rounded out the podium with a third place finish.

Risto’s second place finish moved him into TTR World No 6: “Today everyone was pushing it. The level of riding was so high. It was a contest for amplitude: That was the name of the game. Scotty Lago Interviewed in Transworld Snowboarding
Wednesday, 21 November 2007

After years of hard work, Scotty Lago has received the publicity that every snowboarder dreams of. We would like to congratulate Scotty on his exclusive 14 page interview published in the world’s #1 snowboard magazine, Transworld Snowboarding December ‘07 issue. Scotty’s all over the radar with numerous appearances on Fuel TV, Snowboarder Mag. Snowboard Mag., and MBM out of Germany, just to name a few. With all this media coverage he ranks 6th on the Transworld Business Snowboard Exposure-Meter. An honor of this nature surely deserves a shot of the finest Bourbon…or at least a pat on the back since he’s technically not 21 yet. Way to kill it Scotty!

Flow Team Drops in on NZ

Antti Autti ready for an epic shred session in NZ
You never want to be put in a position where you could set yourself up for failure, but this is the exact position the FLOW Team found themselves in during early September of 2007. To identify the situation a bit, it’s kind of like putting 1,000 dollars down on RED at the Roulette table. With all hopes of doubling up, you might fall flat on your face with 1,000 less to account for your attempts. Maybe it could be compared to a Military mission. For example, going into battle with not enough ammo and men. Or a million hand grenades with no long-range firepower. Whichever you choose, the FLOW Team was in for a real “Do or Die” situation.
